Review of Beginners (2011) by Carlos A — 27 Feb 2012
On the day of his mother's death, Oliver's father reveals to him that he is gay. Suddenly, Oliver realizes everything better. "You never had a close relationship with mum. I knew something was wrong.
" The film easily moves within three time frames: Life after the death of Oliver's father; the period after his father's announcement and later death; and memories of Oliver's childhood and his mother.
The title of the film is tricky. But I believe that it relates to the fact that each character in the film finds a new beginning, and realizes that is never too late.
