I just didn't understand the overall sadness of the Ewan McGregor character and his love interest. It was never really explained. The father/son relationship was much more interesting than the romance.
It was neither that funny or that dramatic. I'm not sure what the director was aiming for. I expected much more from Mike Mills after his last film.
