Review of Beginners (2011) by Laura C — 25 Jun 2012

I could not finish this movie (for two reasons: the DVD kept messing up and then I wasn't interested enough to get netflix to send me another copy). Not enough Christopher Plummer (Hal) and too much Ewan McGregor (Oliver).

I went into this movie thinking it was going to be a touching story about Hal coming out later in life and finally able to soar at least for awhile. The movie focused more on Hal's son's relationship with his new girlfriend than on Hal.

And the scenes that included Hal were more depressing than anything else (not just the ones in the hospital). I love a good sad profound movie but I wanted to see Hal differently. That said: hey, maybe the second part I didn't get to see was the complete opposite of the first half? Hmmm.
