Review of Beginners (2011) by Nik M — 23 Nov 2012
This quiet release is one of my favorite surprises in a long time. It has two of my favorite actors in McGregor and Plummer and Laurent is also very enjoyable. McGregor, playing a much more somber and damaged character, really connects with Laurent for some excellent chemistry, and he and Plummer also create a father-son dynamic that is both believable and heartbreaking.
The film manages to balance romance, personal tragedy, and the search for happiness all into less than two hours, and yet it manages to accomplish a great story in all facets.
