Review of Beginners (2011) by Laura B — 17 Dec 2012
This movie felt like a big fake to me. It's billed as this unconventional comedy about Christopher Plummer's character, bouncing merrily out of the closet at 75 years old after his wife dies. However, it turns out to be mostly about this amazingly uninteresting, apparently whacky, relationship that Ewan McGregor has, in his grief after dad dies, with a vacuous uninteresting French narcissist actress, and it makes you PINE GREATLY for sparkle of 500 Days of Summer.
At times the story is interestingly told - the dog is the best thing about it. A dreadful bore.
