Review of Before the Rain (1994) by Lucia S — 09 Aug 2008
A very moving story depicting the cyclical nature of violence--in this case that of the much troubled Balkan region (in this case Macedonia). Each of the characters are so rich and unique and the cinematography is at times just amazing.
While this story does deal with death & violence, it also deals with redemotion. It is for this reason that the sacrifice made by Alex towards the end of the film is both redeeming and tragic (based on how the rest of the story unfolds).
Watch this movie to see the senselessness of war and conflict, and how it affects each and every one of us at an individual level.
