Review of Before the Flood (2016) by Duncan P — 29 Oct 2016
A beautifully shot and soundtracked, more modern treatise on climate change (and, more broadly, the frustration of trying to persuade the moron American member of the public that it's a real thing), DiCaprio speaks to the frustration and outright nihilistic feeling one can have as a modern environmentalist, but ultimately shows that we are at least not totally beyond hope, despite everything.
I see it has also already been the target of a lot of right-wing political gerrymandering... but frankly, the moment they decided that that Drumpf thing should be taken seriously, they lost all political credibility, so ignore them, and rather listen to the wealth of people with "PhD" after their name that pepper the film.
And, honestly, even if you don't "believe" in climate change (which is textbook delusional, as it flies in the face of ever-mounting evidence), can we at least all agree that regardless of who is causing it, or how "minor" you think it is, it's a noble pursuit to try clean the environment up anyways. If you wouldn't serve dinner to your child on a plate that hasn't been washed after several uses (and after your dog licked food off it), why should you leave your children a planet that hasn't been cleaned of your mess before they start creating their own? It's not fucking hard, people.
