Review of Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007) by Ravikiran A — 15 Jan 2010
A Sidney Lumet classic, the movie showcases Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke's acting talents, and is a movie about a store robbery gone wrong, and how it affects the lives of the characters involved in the robbery, and their families.
Ultimately, it is a narrative about money, and what people will do to themselves and others in their quest to obtain money. Reminiscent of the Coen Brothers' "Fargo", this is a movie of how disasters occur in cascades, one triggering many others, and how simple things can go wrong.
Fantastic performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman as always. Worth a watch.
