Review of Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007) by Millo T — 27 Dec 2011
Here, the thriller serves as a excuse to tell the tragedy of a family. The characters are not professionals, they are imperfect, and because of that, when they get into crime, problems start, and their internal weakness appears to light.
With an interesting way to tell the story, going back in past and future to focus in the different characters (although sometimes it is only useful to tell the story twice without adding more information), this and also a good music add the flavor to a movie based on good actors and a well developed although simple script.
It is not Dog day afternoon or other great success from Sidney Lumet but, thinking that he did that not much before he died, it is a more than decent product. Note: the title (in the appropiate context, explained at the beginning of the movie) is one of the best I've heard in a long time.
