Review of Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007) by Hannah M — 05 Jan 2012
Every so often, I encounter a film that reminds me exactly why I enjoy watching movies so much in the first place. Here we have solid, powerful and raw acting at its finest. With stunning performances by all involved and a gritty realism you are hard pressed to find in most other places, "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" explores the aggression of human nature when put upon by horrific circumstances in a gripping fast-paced film.
It's like the director himself made a movie that would physically reach out and grab hold of your head, forcing you to see absolutely everything -- whether it be a private conversation between a father and son or a past romantic encounter between husband and wife.
It leaves you wanting more, but at the same time not really wanting to come to terms with what you've already been exposed to. Highly recommended.
