Review of Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007) by Mouhannad S — 02 Jan 2011
-Incredibly awkward opening scene. It really doesn't do much for the plot either.
-Poster and box design are way to light and 'black-comedy-like' for this dark, depressing film. From a design stand-point, this was job very poorly done.
-Long, boring build-up to the quickly ending climax of the film.
-Ethan Hawke's more recent depictions of depressed, money-hungry, shit-of-a-life characters are really starting to get old.
-Marisa Tomei's scenes are 50/50 topless. Whether that's good or bad is up to you. Also, she's got to have some serious issues in this...
-Another film making me grow very tired of PSH. Good actor, I'm just tired of him.
-Did I say this was dark and depressing already?
-I really wish Albert Finney would keep his damn mouth closed. That's one guy that must wake up every morning with some major bed-head from sleeping in a drool-soaked bed.
-Direction and cutting back and fourth seems to disembowel the story. It's stylization also comes across as very half-assed.
-That's a messed up family.
-Very good score for this movie!
