Review of Before Sunset (2004) by James J — 03 Aug 2010
Nearly ten years have passed since Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke have filled their roles as Celine and Jesse respectively, but they seemed to do it with relative ease, and naturally filling in the gap of character growth left unseen between them.
They are with new strengths, new weaknesses, and, now, a second chance. My one complaint with it is only in comparison to the first one. The "ticking clock" element of this one is overplayed, leaving no time for atmosphere.
If the first one felt like a timeless dream, this one felt like a therapy session where I'm being charged by the minute. It was, however, a great concept for a sequel, I just thought the first one had the correct pacing for such a conversational movie.
Regardless, this movie is still brilliant, and still gets the highest recommendation I can give. Just see the first one before-hand.
