Review of Before Sunrise (1995) by Chihoe H — 09 Jan 2012
Two strangers in Vienna. If you can stand long takes comprising of lengthy but poetically, thought-provoking dialogue, watch it. It is slow but has a focused pace, the camera's concentration on Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy's facial expressions and body language as they converse freely add depths to their characters.
You can not help but root for them, and hope you could somehow someday find yourself in the same situation they are in, no matter how unknowingly desolate it might be. To make it sweet and simple, "Before Sunrise" is a gem, one that will never lose its shine nor its value as a cinematic masterpiece.
