Review of Before Sunrise (1995) by Tim S — 07 Feb 2017
Perhaps I will feel more connected with it upon further viewings, but I just didn't care much for Before Sunrise, which is not to say that I hated it. The idea of a movie about two people coming together over the course of one night is intruiging, and it has the makings of a good love story.
However, when these two people spend most of the movie being philosophical about life, love, and the human condition, you begin to dislike them after a while and want them to move on to something else.
I think both actors feel quite natural, are very attractive people, and deliver good performances, but the dialogue is just eye roll inducing most of the time. I also didn't totally buy the ending of the film, but I'm just a logical person like that.
There's reason enough to watch the movie, at least enough to get to the next one, which in my opinion, is far superior to its predecessor, but this first part of a trilogy was hard to swallow for me.
