Review of Before Sunrise (1933) by Lucas K — 06 Feb 2011
Jared compared it to Lost in Translation once upon a time, so I obviously had to watch it. It's been sitting on my list long enough, finally got around to it.
I feel like i've been typing this criticism a lot recently, but it applies again. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy carry this movie as far it can go, they were perfect and fantastic in their roles. However, I had a problem with the script. For a movie that is basically 2 characters talking to each other the whole damn time, I still don't even really know Hawke or Delpy's characters. They're talking a whole lot.... without saying much of anything. If you asked me to describe Hawke's Jesse or Delpy's Celine, I really couldn't tell you much of either character. That hurts this movie pretty bad, because the movie is entirely, 100% focused on these 2 characters and their relationship.
An admiral attempt at what could have been a great, heartfelt movie, though.
