Review of Before Sunrise (1933) by Andrew H — 01 Oct 2012
I liked this a lot, but it feels like a less developed version of Waking Life. It's very entertaining and well directed (Richard Linklater can do anything) but I don't think the characters themselves have enough personality to carry a whole movie by talking.
However, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy fill in all the emptiness and make it more three dimensional. They have great chemistry, so it doesn't much matter what they talk about, and it doesn't matter that it's not as focused or themed as Waking Life, it doesn't have to be.
They're in love.
