Review of Before Sunrise (1933) by Yosif M — 23 Mar 2014
Director Richard Linklater, director of "Dazed and Confused", "School of Rock", and "Tape", manages to craft one of the most romantic and effortlessly beautiful movies I've seen in a long time.
"Before Sunrise" is the first in a trilogy, and the first film starts the story off so damn well, yet so simply: an American meets a French woman on a train, they walk through Vienna together, and fall in love within hours.
Aside from "Say Anything", this is probably my favorite screen romance ever. It is a bit talkative, but never boring and always provoking thought when it comes to relationships. And of course, the movie wouldn't work without the right actors, and Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy have such a natural, palpable romantic chemistry together.
Instead of running out to pick up the latest Lifetime romance or resorting to overly sappy Nicholas Sparks movies, give "Before Sunrise" a try. You won't regret it.
