[b]Why You Should See This Movie:
[/b]Javier Bardem was nominated for an Academy Award for acting for this film, which I definitely do not agree with. He did an above average job in this film, but was definitely not Oscar worthy. The film is mildly entertaining mostly due to the shocking exploration of his homosexuality.
[b]Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:[/b].
The movie did have some major faults that dragged it down quite a bit. The effects were pretty poor with the movie looking and feeling like a film made 30 years ago instead of in 2001. Also, the story was pretty disjointed and boring at times especially considering that biographies should flow smoothly. Maybe the biggest drawback for most people is the graphic interpretation of Bardem?s sexuality. At times, I thought the filmmakers had totally abandoned the story of his life in order to film a gay porn movie filled with fairly graphic sex and nudity.

Before Night Falls is a poor attempt at a biography that feels like a movie made long ago that loses its focus way too often to be considered a decent movie.
