Much like so many other people, I did not know very much about Reynaldo Arenas when I saw this film. My interest was piqued after doing so. This film is so beautiful and heartfelt, and you can see the respect and reverence for Arenas on the screen.
Javier Bardem gave an incredible, quiet and wonderful performance. Julian Schnabel has a true cinematic eye, and a deep respect for the individual artists person struggle-much like in his first (and somewhat superior) film Basquiat.
You should check this film out, you will be amazed.
