Beautifully filmed movie, based on the autobiography of Cuban novelist and poet Reinaldo Arenas who was persecuted under Castro's regime for his political views and his homosexuality. Oscar nominated actor Javier Bardem deserved the Oscar that went to Russell Crowe in 2000 for the big-budget production "Gladiator.
" After I watched the movie, I rushed and picked the book that has all the details of the writer's life that didn't make it to the movie. For example, the director opted to spare the viewers the scene of little horny Cuban boys performing bestiality on chicken!
