Review of Before Night Falls (2000) by A S — 16 Mar 2008
I expected this to be overwrought, even didactic. Instead, I think it was handled fairly sensitively to the figure of Reinaldo Arenas. Javier Bardem's performance, of course, is notable, both for its depth and range; I'm glad he brought some fun to the role to cut the heartbreak.
