Review of Before Midnight (2013) by Adam K — 08 Aug 2013
With Oscar worthy performances from Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, giving funny, touching, complex and grounded powerful performances in which they both have on point chemistry and makes the film so entertaining and so hard to watch in the intimate scenes.
The writing is still funny, charming, witty and thoughtful and the themes reflected throughout are never hammered in. The film is directed with restraint and excellence with a great use of long takes and wide shots, like you're watching two people and set against a beautiful back drop of Greece that is captured to perfection.
There is only a personal flaw, because there was a scene so well handled and so emotionally confusing and cruel in ways that I might not be able to deal with that scene again. I dunno, maybe I will but it is beyond amazing and a marvel to watch on screen.
