Review of Before Midnight (2013) by Panos M — 12 Jun 2014
I never actually liked the two previous films, but the "Before" project adopts an approach that spans in real time. Viewers actually needed to wait almost 20 years to watch the very same pair of the first instalment and that is worth some credit.
. The Peloponnesian landscape is beautiful and for the first time other actors have an active role in the film (in the two previous films Jessie and Celine occupied 99% of the dialogues). Long-term commitment is on the microscope and the script takes a lot of risks, but manages to deliver something concrete.
Some of the stuff that annoyed me in the prequels continue to exist (like Celine's pessimism), but the couple is much more mature and likable.
