Review of Before Midnight (2013) by Mayank A — 21 Nov 2014
Just saw the whole trilogy back to back and this one is the weakest, no not weakest more depressing of the lot, that's why a 4 star rating, as a standalone movie it would be a sure 5 on 5. Jesse and Celine are back, now in their 40's they have kids, been together for 9 years and like all people are dissatisfied with life.
In the previous installments we have only seen the bitter sweet romance of the couple, this time around we see anger, frustration and fights. It still has the humor, in fact Julie Delpy imitation of a bimbo was the most laugh I have had in the series but the arguments between the couple while interesting and fresh is sad. Also it does have some dull moments, the pacing was not as good as the previous installments and it is the lengthiest movie of the trilogy. Still Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are outstanding and this series is Gem. Hoping for another look at Jesse and Celine in there 50's.
