Review of Before Midnight (2013) by Patrick L — 30 Sep 2013
It doesn't appear to be arriving here in Canada or at least not the Okanagan region and so I will need to wait until it is on dvd and likely through Red Box and not Walmart....ah well. It still has not shown up at Walmart nor on Redbox's machine....Hollywood and the film industry fails film lovers yet again...!
5...4....3...2....1....Hurray for the Penticton Art Gallery and their sponsors who brought this film to the Penticton Landmark for two screenings today, I snagged one ticket to the early show and perhaps the only ticket left!!!
I arrived with time to spare and got some treats and joined the audience of seniors who made up the bulk of the audience. Before Midnight is a worthy successor to the first two films, neither one of them too alike at all aside from the construct of scenery and conversation. It should be noted there is substantial nudity in this film, assuming Julie was comfortable with it I still felt badly for her that she was "used" in that way...I really enjoyed the film, the scenes, the conversations etc.
Before Midnight picks up many years later with Jesse and Celine having become a couple. They've had relationships since the first and second times they met and now are navigating their own relationship with children involved. They are in Greece to reconnect and do but also after arguing with one another more than once. I'm very glad that I saw this film, the best relationship film since the predecessor Before Sunset. 10/10.
