Review of Before I Fall (2017) by Ken S — 25 Apr 2017
Imagine "Mean Girls" mixed with "The Virgin Suicides" and "Groundhog Day", and you get this: "Before I Fall." It is average in many respects, forgettable in most.
I don't get out to the movies as much as I would like sometimes, and this tome my wife got to make the call on what we saw, and she chose this having read the book. I'd never heard of it or the book, and as much as I can tell for a good reason.
It is in no way up my alley. The story is predictable in many ways, and frankly, it did nothing I hadn't seen before and done better in each of the categories it sort of ticks. It also feels like the kind of movie that probably went through a few drafts and never really clicked, and the final draft has a few scenes and ideas that belong to story threads dropped from the actual final cut of the film.
Skippable in many ways. But we paid $3 to see it...so at least I didn't spend too much.
