Review of Before I Fall (2017) by Robby K — 19 May 2017
Since "Groundhog Day" the idea of being stuck in a time loop has become its own sub-genre. One that never really differentiates from the norm, and never really recaptures the success that Groundhog Day achieved.
"Before I Fall" goes through the expectedly boring setup the same way most of these films do, but when it takes a turn for the dark it becomes something different. Spearheaded by Zoey Deutch, who continues to prove she's too good for the films she's in, and a good supporting turn from Logan Miller this movie overcomes its negatives with a final third act that refreshes much of what makes this sub-genre consistently dull, yet ever entertaining.
