Review of Beetlejuice (1988) by J Brigham H — 15 Oct 2012
BEETLEJUICE is arguably is greatest example of what had come to be known as "Burtonesque". Here all the elements of Tim Burton's style combine, including zany treatment of the macabre, picture-postcard suburbia, campy kitsch and German Expressionist designs; the resulting mixture is a pretty strong but fun flavor, led by the explosive comic performance by Michael Keaton.
With all its high energy, the structure and characterizations sometimes get a little messy, but it gets by on likability.
