I cannot stand the perception of Beer in North America.

As a Canadian I have to put up with the most outlandish and childish marketing programs ever. These are, of course, aimed at middle aged and 20 something men whom I pray are not stupid enough to fall for it.

Most annoying about Beer is its connections to both masculinity and refreshment.

Beer is at best a mediocre drink, its certainly not better than the endless variety of drinks that can be made from various spirits and liqueurs, these however are considered girly drinks in this country becuase real men drink carbonated swine (mostly American and Canadian Lagers).

There is a reason O'Douls doesnt outsell Coca-Cola, its because beer is chosen by most becuase of a social obligation to participate in the most rugged form of inebriation, no sweet juices or tasteless spirits.

I still cant hammer down why beer of all alcohol is the "manly" one, but it cant be the refreshing nature of the drink after a hard day of mans work...

We all know beer has limited ability to actually hydrate anyone, and carbonated drinks don't quench thirst anywhere near the level of water or juices, so its seems the best explanation is that the advertising has succeeded in creating this persona for beer.
