Review of Beerfest (2006) by Jason R — 03 May 2009
As someone who only drinks an occasional beer, a movie about a beer drinking contest is really hard to get into. But when you get serious actors like Jurgen Pro.......that dude from Das Boot and Oscar winner Cloris Leachman, you can get past the crude bits of comedy like drinking rams' urine or ping pong paddle sodomy.
This really was a pretty funny movie. Not high brow comedy, but when it comes on Comedy Central, it's good viewing. There is just one problem with it. The first time I saw it, I was in Missouri at my parent's house.
A plot point was the American team couldn't figure out how the Germans were able to drink beer out of a giant boot glass without choking on it. Apparently, the vortex, air bubble or some scientific term for the foot part of the boot causes people to spill beer all over themselves when they try to chug.
I'm actually not that good at beer chugging although I beat a Hooters waitress at chugging tonic water. So, I was just moderately curious how to chug from a boot. Then my dad walks in and says "you turn the boot when you get near the bottom.
" How do you have a mysterious plot that my dad can answer in 2 seconds?
