Review of Beerfest (2006) by Cliff C — 08 Dec 2009
From the people who brought you Super Troopers, Beerfest is a ridiculous and hilarious ride from start to finish. broken lizard is not for a lot of people, and their humor will come off to a lot of people as immature and stupid.
thats just what they were trying to do though: be stupid and make an implausible movie that obviously could not be an actual thing in real life. nevertheless, the story revolves around todd and jan wolfhouse, two americans who travel to germany to spread their recently deceased grandfather's ashes.
they soon find out that their grandfather had stolen the german's "greatest beer in the world" recipe, and after being humiliated at the underground drinking game tournament "Beerfest", they vow to avenge their grandfather and great grandmother's names.
they gather up a team of elite alcoholics, and train for an entire year to compete in the next Beerfest. the cast is made up of Broken Lizard themselves (Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske) along with veteran actors Jurgen Prochnow, Cloris Leachman, and Donald Sutherland.
other actors such as Erich Christian Olsen, Will Forte, Mo'Nique, James Roday, and even Willie Nelson appear too. overall, the humor might push a lot of people away, but I very much enjoyed this movie and recommend it to any comedy lovers.
