Review of Bee Movie (2007) by Johanna O — 12 Mar 2010
All right, to be fair, this movie started out pretty good. The way they depicted the pollination process in this film was well done, and yes, the flying scenes were pretty... exihilarating. But when the bee and the human first met, the movie suddenly began a long, downward spiral. The whole thing with the woman leaving her idiotic bodybuilding boyfriend (voiced by "Kronk" from "Emperor's New Groove") for the bee was kinda dumb, and Chris Rock's mosquito character was utterly useless (WHY was he even there?? for only like 2 minutes of screen time total???). The plot was weak, and it looks like the movie was just an opportunity for Mr. Big Shot (ahem, JERRY SEINFELD) to make fun of Sting's stage name and Ray Liotta.
And the ending? Like a million bees are going to be able to fly a 500-ton jet airliner after its power has gone out!!!
Sorry, DreamWorks, "Shrek" 1 and 2, "Over the Hedge" were funny, but you need to work a little harder to get above pop-culture-reference-filled garbage like "Shrek the Third" and "Shark Tale" (the biggest culprit, from what I've heard). For your credit, though, this is only the SECOND most boring animated film I've watched; "Planet 51" takes the number one spot for that category. Thank the producers for that pile of *** for allowing you to avoid that dishonor.
Have a nice day! ;) 1/5 stars.
