Review of Bedtime Stories (2008) by Movie K — 31 Mar 2012

Rather likeable and nice movie but don't know why so many snubbed it. It is heart-warming and cute just not that lame funny from the usual Adam Sandler movies. The guinea pig with 2 big popping eyes is rather weird/creepy.

Jonathan Pryce the narrator opens a small hotel and raise his 2 kids. Son love his bedtime stories. But the business is bad until a man took over and promise if the son grow up to be useful, he can take over the hotel.

25 years passed, boy become Adam the maintenance guy of the hotel which expanded and doing well. Richard Griffiths is the boss and his daughter Teresa Palmer is girlfriend of the manager Guy Pearce. The hotel is closing down and move to another site which will be even bigger and Guy is obviously the manager.

Russell Brand is Adam friend in the hotel. Lucy Lawless is the other "bad" character in hotel. Courtney Cox is Adam sister and she is the school principal but the school is closed and she needs to go Arizona for an interview.

She ask the MIA Adam to help her babysit her 2 kids (Jonathan Morgan Heit & Laura Ann Kesling). The other teacher Keri Russell will also help out during the day and the duo got off on wrong foot upon first met.

Adam didn't know what to do with the kids and ask them go to bed early. The kids want to hear bedtime stories and he find their story books lousy so he gonna make his own. He injected his own sad life into the story and the kids added in some of their input.

Next day, Adam have to bring the kids to his workplace as Richard want his TV fixed. Surprisingly, Richard let Adam come up with a theme for the new hotel to compete with Guy's rejected rock and roll theme.

They will present it at his birthday party and winner will be new hotel manager. Then later it rain gumballs and all this are what the kids mention in the story. Guy and Lucy had a thing going on as well.

Next story night Adam input more of what he wish for in the story but the kids didn't like it and had their own weird version. Adam try his luck at the Ferrari showroom and thought Rob Schneider is gonna give him one for free but took his wallet instead.

He save Teresa from the paparazzi and thought he can get her kiss but true enough a midget kick him. Same as what the kids said. He thought Teresa who is driving a Ferrari is gonna give him that but its too impossible.

Adam now realise only the kids have the final say. Guy tell Adam not to try favour Teresa in order to succeed. The 2nd last night of story Adam try to input more stuffs of own interest but the kids totally rewrite it.

Next day, Adam bump into Keri at the beach and they go to eat. Adam saw a group of ladies who dump him in high school. Ask Keri to be her girlfriend and all the ladies are jealous. Then they really dance the hocky pocky.

The final story Adam manage to finalise he win the competition. The kids isn't happy and added he get hit by fireball and incinerated. Right after that they go to sleep. Guy told Keri their school site is the new hotel location.

She is angry why Adam didn't tell her. He is wary of fire and brought lots of precaution. Eating ice-cream his tongue got stung by a bee. Russell help to translate for him as his speech blurred. He manage to win Richard recognition.

Adam then know about the school site. When Richard is going to blow the candle, Adam extinguishes it and is fired immediately. He go to school to find Keri and the kids and they shun him. Courtney got the job in Arizona.

The staffs all tried to protest at the place. Adam know he must try to do something. Keri try to persuade Richard along the way. In the land office, Adam is already there and manage to convince the authority who is his high school friend to reject his buying of the land.

Instead the first choice site which is by the beach is made available for him. Richard couldn't call out to stop the demolition. The kids re-enter the school trying to stop the act. Guy refuse Courtney plea to halt the demo.

Adam and Keri riding a bike rush to the scene and he kick Guy away and save the day. He and Keri are together and open Marty's Motel. Guy and Lucy end up working for him. Richard overcome the germ phobia and become nurse.

Teresa and Russell marry and run the hotel together.
