Review of Bedtime Stories (2002) by Bill C — 10 Sep 2010
This could have easily dropped to a 50 star rating, saved by my 4 year old who was sick and could not sleep 4:30 AM. He found the physical humor hilarious and I just had to laugh along. I thought it was formula driven and devoid of the eccentricities I liked in many of the Happy Madison productions.
You really can?t have Creole hill-billy?s twisting there nipples in a PG film. It is more of a direct and edit by Disney committee. Over half of the inspired moments are shown in the trailer. Keri Russel plays his love interest and her role is edited down to a dozen five minute predictable interactions.
Courtney Cox is his recently divorced sister who is an over protective mother and the object of Sandler?s ridicule. She is a health food fanatic who does not let her children watch TV. I still can not understand how the film sanitizers at Disney allowed his distain for health food make it in the movie.
It is the only scene in the movie I can figure that bumps it up from a G to a PG movie. Rob Schneider even makes a couple of pointless appearance the humor if any was lost on the cutting room floor.
