Review of Bedrooms and Hallways (1998) by Alyssa N — 08 Nov 2008
This British romantic-comedy is smart, but also outrageously over-the-top, so of course it's tons of fun to watch. For those of you who watched HBO's Rome as avidly as I did, seeing McKidd and Purefoy play lovers will be an added novelty, yet even beyond that, they really do have excellent chemistry.
The sexual tension between them is palpable, and it draws you into the relationship right away. But that's not to say the supporting characters don't hold their own. Though Hollander and Weaving may not carry much of the emotional weight, they're definitely responsible for some of the most hilarious moments.
But while the eccentric characters and situations are highly entertaining, I would have appreciated this film a bit more if it had gone further with the message of sexual fluidity that it presents.
