Review of Bedazzled (2000) by John M — 03 Dec 2008
Easy to slate, as it often is, but hell, this is a cute movie! I like Brendan Fraser's performance(s) as office nerd Elliott and his various fantasy alter-ego's and really think he brings a lot to the part.
Fraser's quite an odd actor really in that he seems to have an internal acting switch with only two settings: macho (The Mummy) and loser (Blast from the Past), with the latter roles generally to be ignored, but I think he really works here.
Liz Hurley on the other hand - WOW! She'll never win an oscar but daaayum is she smoking freaking hot here and her take on the devil is kinda nifty. Some of the wish scenes work, some don't but overall this is a nice little kooky movie and for better or worse I enjoy it.
Not sure what Hurley's Satan is doing playing chess with God at the end though. What the heck?
