Review of Bed of Roses (1996) by Doug Z — 22 Aug 2007
I learned perhaps one of my most treasured life lessons from this movie. I learned that nobody is perfect to everybody, but everybody is perfect to somebody.
Lisa: I really think they ought to have thorns, though, because otherwise they're just too perfect.
Lewis: I don't know. I think there's enough thorns in the world as it is. I think every now and then everyone's entitled to too much perfection.
This movie means the world to me. It's my absolute favorite of Christian Slater's many unique gems, and a vastly underrated romantic drama. It sweeps you off your feet, but in a totally different way. You're not overcome by the perfection, as it were. It's honest, it's beautiful, and probably the most respectable thing about it are the characters' inhibitions.
