Review of Bed and Board (1970) by Arin D — 21 Apr 2008
This film follows the conjugal career of Antonie Doinel, the boy from 'The 400 Blows' (there are two intervening films following the character that I've missed). Average fare from Truffaut, a big decline from when he was still Nouvelle Vague.
The film is replete with references to cinematic lore: Resnais' 'Last Year at Marienbad' (gloriously spoofed here in a short TV segment) and theJacques Tati films (M. Hulot makes a cameo appearance at a metro station).
I think I was a bigger fan of Truffaut and his favorite actor (J-P Leaud) when they were both younger.
