Review of Becoming Jane (2007) by Skyler B — 31 May 2009
I didn't really expect to like this, but to my surprise I did, very much. I enjoy Jane Austen movies as a rule, and I liked that this movie was very much in that same style. Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy just prove once again why they are two of the best young actors of their generation - it must be difficult to convey the appropriate emotion hindered by the very proper mannerisms and language that the time period demands, but they both pulled it off very well.
My one criticism is that they fell in love too suddenly - one moment they cannot stand each other and the next minute they are talking marriage. I loved the ending - it's one of those that stays with you long after the movie is finished.
Not for everyone, but if you generally like period dramas, then definitely recommended.
