Review of Becoming Jane (2007) by Xime F — 07 Jan 2010
I am forever prone to preferring romantic English epic films, especially those about impossible love affairs and Austen's era. However fantastic the plot about this particularly love affair which never took place in Austen's real life, I found the solution to the conflict incredibly silly.
Austen was not that tied to family moral - thus she never married! Austen was not that religious or that worried about money... Nevertheless, I loved the shooting, loved McAvoy, the costumes, the music - WOW! - and of course, Maggie Smith and Julie Walters.
Sadly, although Hathaway shows nice chemistry with McAvaoy, I don't agree with her being the best choice for such a strong, passionate woman. Good work on the accent, though. Ah, what the hell, I will watch it a thousand times anyway! ;).
