Review of Becoming Jane (2007) by Karissa C — 03 Sep 2011
This film got an extremely harsh review. As a girl who grew up on Austen books, this film was like a map of how Austen was inspired for her novels. First off, Anne, oh Anne, how amazing you are. Her accent - unlike in One Day - is nearly flawless.
I say nearly because I'm too busy rooting her on that I forget to pay attention. Also, Macavoy is, surprisingly, sexy in this film. Yes, he's always charming - sigh - but never do I find him sexy.
So from the relationships, and Maggie Smith, and all the drama of marriage for money vs. love and trying to be an independent woman this film keeps me going. Also, on a technical note: the acting is MARVELOUS, the cinematography is phenomenal (those scenes in the woods, during the fight scenes and the balls it is excellent and worth a watch, even if your not into "chick" flicks), the costumes: brilliant! All those colors, and also the hair isn't the typical ugly, used too much powder and fake hair dye to give a "classical" look to these modern actresses, but rather used their natural curl and wave to style it as IF it is the.
. 19th century. Anyways, as a young girl who is in love with Pride and Prejudice and Emma, this film captured my heart and made me swing. It's funny how so much and yet so little has changed from this time.
