Review of Because of Winn-Dixie (2005) by James H — 01 Jun 2012
AnnaSophia Robb is a sensational young actress, and she's really famous nowadays. This is her very first movie, and her performance was fantastic. In fact, the whole movie is fantastic.
The movie is based on a book, and it's about a young girl called Inida Opal (AnnaSophia Robb) but everyone just calls her Opal. She lives with her father (Jeff Daniels) who is a preacher, but her mother left her when she was very little. She and her father have just moved to a town called Naomi, and Opal doesn't have any friends. One day, she is at a grocery store called Winn Dixie. Suddenly, she sees the workers chasing after a dog. Once they catch the dog, they are about to call the pound until Opal stops them saying that it is her dog and he is called Winn Dixie. She brings Winn Dixie home and asks her father if she can keep him. He agrees that the dog can be kept temporarily until a suitable home is found. Winn Dixie and Opal become friends, and soon they meet all sorts of people that live in Naomi. She finds friends of all types all because of Winn Dixie. This is beautifully told in this movie. The storytelling is terrific. This has a lot of sad moments and some were cute. So, the story was really good. All the characters are just so lovely and likeable. You really take a liking to the dog Winn Dixie.
The acting was terrific. The dog that played Winn Dixie was adorable and I love a dog that can act. AnnaSophia Robb was adorable as Opal, she was so cute back then. Jeff Daniels' performance as the father was also really good. The cast was perfect, even though there were some weak performers such as Elle Fanning.
The location was pretty nice. The nice country town was perfect because it feels so warm and charming. The cinematography was excellent and it makes the place look beautiful.
This is delightful family film. It's cute, sweet and very beautifully created. It's got some funny moments and some adorable moments and everything makes you fell warm and fuzzy. We have a great script and some wonderful characters. Highly Reccomended.
