Review of Beavis and Butt-Head Do America (1996) by Kevin D — 21 Dec 2010
Going into it I hadn't really been a fan of the famous duo. I saw the show a few times on reruns, but that was about it. I am however a fan of Mike Judge and I'm also a fan of watching movies under an hour and 20 minutes right before bed, so I gave this one a shot. I was very fortunate to watch this movie. It was the hardest a movie has made me laugh in a long, long time.
This was basically Dumb & Dumber in cartoon form and with rich satire. It took a while for the humor to develop. I didn't laugh until after 10 minutes in, but after that, the laughs just piled on top of each other. It was constant situations involving miscommunication and irony. Plus there was lots of dirty and vulgar humor that was lots of fun. The movie is incredibly funny, but I was impressed with the satire. It surprisingly sums up the last few decades of teenage eras. It shows how dumb and dependent culture has become. There were lots of well-made observations and points made on teenage culture.
The voice cast was also awesome, with Cloris Leachman as the cute old lady and Bruce Willis and Demi Moore as the villains. Mike Judge was great as usual with the voices and it was shocking to see him use the Hank Hill voice with a character pre-King of the Hill. This is one of the funniest movies that I've ever seen and it is also incredibly entertaining and satirical.
