Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017) by Torion O — 19 May 2017

A little too quirky in its style for me, but enjoyable. I was surprised that I found one new piece sung by the Beast pretty good. The other additions were pretty meh. One thing I would have liked to have seen done better was Gaston, I felt like he was just plain evil simply because he had to be to have his death justified in the end.

It would've been cool to have him be more tragic, and in the beginning it really felt like it was going to go that way given the snobby heartless attitude Belle had towards him. Having the villain be relatable enough to understand his motives yet rightfully fail in the end and having the hero have more of a darker side rather than be perfect would've been sweet.

But Gaston turned out to simply be unstable, which begs the question how did he ever become popular in the first place if not getting something set him off?
