Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017) by Connor M — 01 Jun 2017
Disney has been pretty flawless when it comes to remaking their classic animated films into live action films lately. Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Pete's Dragon have all had their own form of success one way or another, and now it was time for Beauty and the Beast to shine.
The original animated film is a near-perfect masterpiece, so I was curious to see how they would approach the remake. In the end, Disney nails this movie out of the park. The set designs, the musical numbers, and the performances all shine in this gorgeous adaptation.
Dan Stevens gives a phenomenal performance as the Beast, and I loved Luke Evans as Gaston as well. I was worried about Emma Watson's performance during her first few scenes, but she ended up finishing very strong, and she was lovely throughout the film.
I enjoyed the few new songs that they added into the mix, and they nailed the original songs as well. One of my favorite aspects of the film is the set designs and costumes; though, and I can definitely see this movie getting an Oscar nomination in those two categories.
Disney continues to impress with their live action remakes, and Beauty and the Beast is one of the most beautiful films you'll see all year.
