Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017) by Don S — 20 Jul 2017
The animated version is one of my all time favs. This version is very faithful to it. I love and adore Emma Watson as Belle. Innocence, strength, and smoldering beauty all were expertly administered in her portrayal.
The music, as expected, was astounding. What didn't work nearly so well for me, though none were bad enough alone or in total to wreck the movie, was Luke Evans as Gaston (he was roguishly likeable in the original - just a brutish ass here), the look of the Beast, and the personification of the household objects (Cogsworth and Lumiere worked, the others not so much) - in this age of CGI mastery, I expected better.
Still, I enjoyed it very much. The story still touches my heart.
