This movie falls into the same issue ad Disney's others live-action remake; focussing on the wrong subject.

Beauty and the Beast is not about Belle, she is only a medium through which the story is shown. The story is really about Beast. He's the one with heartache, a tragic upbringing which haunts him to this day, and ultimately changes in the end.

This new one focusses on Belle and to justify this they pad out time with an awkward subplot about Belle resentig her father for not talking about her mother.

This would be fine if it contributed to the plot but, it doesn't. If they removed thise scenes, nothing would be lost.

The screenplay was thin to begin with. It was heavily reliant on talented actors/ actresses to pull it off. It didn'5 fet that.

Emma Watson is the next biggest flaw with this film. She can't act. The entire film, she has the same disinterested look on her face and seems to be actively putting as little effort into this project as she can. Had she been a cameo, it would go unnoticed, but, she's the star.

The guy who played the father was also pretty lousy but he's hardly there.

They destroyed the Beast's character. He once had the best subtextual lines in Disney films but his dialogue in this remake is so on the nose it's cringeworthy.

For example; he's holding Gaston over the ledge. Gaston begs for mercy. In the original, Beast spares him and demands him to sinply "get out." In the remake, Beast tells him "i'm no beast.", throws him to safety, and leaves.

In the original, when Belle leaves to save her father, Beast roars in pain. This renake, he sings about how sad he is.

This kind of on the nose dialogue deflates any tragidy with the Beast.

I could go on for days why this remake is trash and deserves no praise, but, this comment is long enough.

PS: the set design is nauseating. Lay off the swirls, Disney.
