Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017) by Joe D — 09 Jul 2017
I'm conflicted on this move. I absolutely loved the Disney animated version and I kept getting weird surreal feelings during this movie. It felt like it was an imposter. The singing sounds strange, I'm not sure if there's a lot of autotune or what.
At first I didn't feel like the casting was good at all. Everything was just slightly different than I remember it. The added scenes didn't really add anything interesting and they clearly stuck out like a sore thumb.
I felt like they explored the wrong areas when it came to fleshing out the story. So things got off to a rocky start for me. However, just as Belle and Beast's romance bolossmed, my appreciation for the movie did also.
Their chemistry warmed my heart and seeing those iconic scenes of the ballroom and ending play out in live-action was an amazing sight. I was won over by the end and can't wait to see the next live-action Disney adaptation.
