Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017) by That Awkward G — 29 Sep 2017

What a phenomenal retelling of a phenomenal story! Beauty and the Beast is spectacular! Even though it was a retelling of the same story that we all know, it still felt fresh with some minor tweaks here and there to make it feel rejuvenated with great and touching moments.

All of the acting was on point! The musical numbers were fun and very well constructed, as well as the new songs, which are also great (particularly Evermore, performed by Dan Stevens himself)! Now, when comparing this to its original counterpart from 1991, don't go in to this film expecting it to be better than the animated film, because this film should be reviewed on its own, without the mention of the original to diminish its greatness.

This retelling can stand on its own, and that's all that matters! Another thing worth mentioning, is that this needs to be nominated for Best Production Design, as well as Best Costume Design and win both those awards! This is definitely the best live action Disney retelling we have gotten so far, and I cannot wait for more of these remakes for years to come! I loved this movie! What a breath of fresh air!
