Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017) by Rotimer J — 10 Sep 2017
Superbly entertaining live action remake of an animated Disney classic. Best live-action Disney remake to date. Great CGI special effects, costume design, direction, and cinematography. Standout acting performances by Emma Watson (as the radiant, independent, intelligent, sincere, and charming Belle), Luke Evans (as the profoundly over-the-top, proud, arrogant, and brash Gaston), & Ewan McGregor (as the fun, joyous, light-hearted, sarcastic, and enthusiastic Lumeire). Along with solid performances by the rest of the well-chosen and selected ensemble cast members. Although the Prince/Beast could have come off a little less smug and elitist in that ONE scene where he introduces Belle to his large library room in the castle...lol. I preferred the way that similar library introduction scene was better planned, developed, and played out in the animated version. One minor negative in an otherwise amazing and fabulous movie.
Seeing the "Be Out Guest" musical scene in the large dining room table when they are serving Belle dinner in live action and CGI was flat-out amazing. There was such enthusiasm and attention to details placed into the production of that scene, they were able to match and do such justice to the memorable musical scene from the animated version. Astonishingly well-done!
